Sunday & Monday Assignments

There will be a cookout for vol-unteers at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, October 12 at the Manteo Gym-nasium at Westcott Park. Afterward, volunteers will set up the gym with tables and chairs for more than 525 VIPs. Another group will head to the First Flight Lions Club where they will assemble fishing rods. at 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 13, volunteers will assemble inside the gymnasium for a continental breakfast. After-wards, assignments will be made. Volunteers are attending the VIP Fishing Tournament to work.

Volunteering At Meals

Volunteers assigned to serve as greeters, serve food and drinks, or clean-up the gymnasium afterward must be at the Manteo Gymnasium at least one hour prior to the scheduled start of the meal. Volunteers should not leave the gymnasium to eat their meals until all VIPs are served.

Fishing Day

All volunteers will be assigned to either work on a fishing pier or head boat Tuesday morning. You should arrive at your assignment early. Only those volunteers assigned to work at the gymnasium for breakfast will be allowed to be late.

The North Carolina Lions VIP Fishing Tournament could not accomplish its purpose without the hundreds of volunteers needed. Volunteers make the tournament a success each year by working to prepare each site for our participants. They prepare the rods and reels for the fishing tournament, along with cutting bait, hauling fish to be weighed and serving as guides for the visually impaired participants. They welcome the participants at the local motels, stuff registration packets, transport supplies and prepare and sale merchandise during the event; they set up 150 tables and 750 chairs at the local gymnasium where meals and seminars will be held; they help prepare food and serve the participants breakfast, lunch and dinner; they clean up the gymnasium after each meal and prepare for the next meal; and they actually pay for the privilege of being a volunteer.
